Troubleshooting
Quick fixes for the things people hit most often. Still stuck? Email support and we’ll help.
The extension shows “disconnected”
- Make sure the Promptr app is running (its icon is in the menu bar).
- The app uses a fixed local port,
8765. If another program is using it, the extension can’t connect — quit the conflicting app (or restart your Mac) and relaunch Promptr. - Only run one copy of the app at a time.
Nothing shows on a page
- Confirm the site is granted in the extension — access is off until you allow each site.
- Make sure Learning Mode is off when presenting.
- Check that a mapping actually exists for that page. Open Manage Mappings to review.
- If a mapping is flagged as Missing (shown in red), its content file was moved, renamed, or deleted — re-assign it to an existing file.
My notes appeared in a screen share
Turn off Show in Screen Share in the menu — that setting makes the overlay capturable. Exclusion depends on macOS, so do a quick test share before an important demo to confirm the overlay is hidden on your machine.
Shared-folder content isn’t appearing
- Is the folder enabled in Shared Folders settings?
- Has the file finished syncing/downloading from your cloud provider? Evicted (online-only) files are fetched on demand, which can take a moment.
- For Markdown/text, confirm the frontmatter has a closing
---fence — without it, the rules are ignored. See Authoring Shared Content. - Delete any “conflicted copy” duplicates your sync provider created.
A global hotkey does nothing
⌘⇧L and ⌘⇧P are system-wide. If one seems dead, another app may have claimed the same combination — quit or reconfigure that app, or use the menu bar item instead.
