Get started with Promptr

Up and running in under 5 minutes.

1

Download Promptr

Download the macOS app, unzip it, and drag Promptr.app to your Applications folder.

Download for Mac
  • Requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later
  • Universal binary — works on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs
  • Signed and notarized by Apple — no Gatekeeper warnings
2

Install the Chrome Extension

Install the Promptr companion extension from the Chrome Web Store. It connects to the app automatically.

Add to Chrome
  • The extension connects to the macOS app over a local WebSocket
  • On install, it has access to zero websites — you grant access per site
  • Communicates only over localhost — no data leaves your machine
3

Grant site access

Click the Promptr icon in your Chrome toolbar and grant access to the sites you demo on.

  • Click the Promptr icon in Chrome (pin it for easy access)
  • On any site you want to demo, click "Grant access"
  • Chrome will ask you to confirm — this is the standard permission flow
  • Promptr only runs on sites you explicitly approve — revoke any site anytime
4

Launch Promptr

Open Promptr from your Applications folder. It lives in the menu bar — look for the blue icon at the top of your screen.

  • No dock icon — Promptr stays out of your way
  • The teleprompter overlay appears when content is matched
  • Grant Accessibility permissions when prompted (needed for app context tracking)
5

Add your content

Drop your talking points, scripts, and notes into the content library.

  • Open the content library from the menu bar: click Promptr → Open Content Library
  • Supports .md, .txt, .rtf, and .rtfd files
  • Or add a shared folder: Promptr → Shared Folders → Add Folder
6

Map content to your demo

Turn on Learning Mode and assign content to the pages and elements in your demo.

  • Menu bar → toggle Learning Mode (or press Cmd+Shift+L from any app)
  • Navigate to a page in Chrome — Promptr records the URL
  • Click elements to create anchor-level mappings
  • Open Manage Mappings from the menu bar to assign content to recorded anchors
7

Present

Run your demo normally. Promptr detects where you are and displays the right talking points automatically.

  • The teleprompter appears as an always-on-top overlay
  • Adjust scroll speed with Cmd+Plus / Cmd+Minus
  • Pause/resume with Space
  • Your audience sees your app — you see your talking points
